Date Night, A Beautiful Thing

 Date Night…at Last

This past Saturday night my husband and I got to spend a few hours away from the house…alone.  It’s been about two and half months since we’ve been able to do that, which is waaaayyy too long.  My husband and I love spending time together so our goal is to have a date night once a month but we haven’t been very successful at it.  It may happen for two or three months in a row and then it goes awry.

Part of the reason is I’m that mom who doesn’t want someone we don’t know watching our child.  As a mom I suffer from enough guilt and that won’t be one more thing on my list, even if it means more sacrifices.  My husband and I are both transplants to NJ so we have no family near us.  That leaves our wonderful friends but like everyone else, they have their own lives and aren’t always available.  Thankfully my sister was in town for a visit last weekend so she volunteered for some one on one time with her nephew.  That left me and the hubby to have a relaxing night out with no guilt!

A Show

Because my husband is so awesome we first went to see a movie I’ve been wanting to see for awhile.  Watching  movies on the big screen.  I’m perfectly content to watch them at home cuddled on the couch with my husband and my bowl of popcorn.  I can also pause it if I need too.  On occasion, however, it is nice to go to a movie theater, get the tub of popcorn with lots of fake butter on it and eat it while the commercials and previews play.  I can just enjoy being out of the house for a couple hours and forget about all the things that need to get done at home.  Before Saturday it was over a year since I had been to a theater.  Probably not a bad thing since our tickets, a tub of popcorn and a large water bottle was over $40!  This was not a 3D or IMAX movie either, just a standard theater.  When I mentioned the cost to my husband, he told me I was worth it.  He said he would even pay $50 for me…funny guy.

And Dinner

After the movie we went to The Cheesecake Factory.  I don’t know if it’s the selection of their large menu or that they have cheesecake but I like that place.  We don’t eat out a lot, about once a week.  When we do though The Cheesecake Factory is usually one of our preferences.  They also have gluten-free options now and they’ve always had good Cosmos so it’s a win-win for me.

It may not have been the most exciting or wild evening of our lives but we had a good time.  I am happy and thankful for anytime alone with my husband and I hope our next date night won’t be another two and a half months.  I also hope you all are having more frequent date nights than we are!

So happy you and your hubby took time for yourselves to enjoy each other …jealous of that fake butter popcorn! It’s important that you nurture your relationship with each other. For moms, I know it’s a struggle.
Good for you for being a responsible mother and always knowing who is watching over your precious little one. Looking forward to hearing about your next date night!
